About Ashley
I'm Ashley Hoffman— Olympian, National Champion and former Division 1 athlete, and Captain of the U.S. Women’s Field Hockey Team. I'm also a certified Yoga Instructor and Somatic Educator and Yoga Therapist Trainee.
For over a decade, I've trained at the highest athletic level, traveled the world for competition (and fun!) and been devoted to achieving my lifelong dream of being an olympian.
In 2015, at UNC, Yoga became a place for me that I could lay down everything that weighed on me and find an attitude of kindness and compassion that I was lacking within the high performance environment where I noticed perfectionism and my inner critic often took over.

Instead I left the classes feeling inspired and reconnected to myself and God, a source of strength in my life. Over time I noticed the tools I practiced in yoga naturally showing up in my daily life and on the field during high-stakes competitions - I was more centered in tough conversations with coaches, calm through the ups and downs of training and competition, and the voice in my head was becoming more kind.
After finishing my MBA I decided to take a different route and dove heart-first into the world of the body outside the western frame of reference. I started what I like to think as my "Masters Degree in Life experiences". I lived in different countries, got to know myself and along the way pursued my interests. Below are some of the milestones:

About The Asana Athlete
I created The Asana Athlete to bring together my love for chasing ambitious dreams, self-development, and holistic wellness. My mission is to help athletes feel inspired and empowered to experience the deep personal growth that a holistic approach to sport makes possible—to witness athletes and high achievers leading themselves with clarity, confidence, and sustainability both in and beyond their game.

The Asana Athlete is rooted in the core values of awareness, acceptance, and accountability.
Awareness of self is the foundation for true growth and authentic leadership.
Acceptance reminds us that we're human - beautifully imperfect and always evolving.
Accountability calling us to take ownership of our choices, our growth, and the impact we have on the world.
No matter your background or level of competition, this work is about meeting yourself fully—not from a mindset of constantly needing to prove your worth, but with the deep understanding that who you are is already enough, and that's exactly where your greatest power begins. From there we are able to build a life that feels grounded, present, and fully alive.
More about your teacher
Ashley grew up in Pennsylvania with her four older brothers and parents, Brenda and Scott. Her mother, Brenda, is a member of the Bronze Medal-winning U.S Olympic Field Hockey Team at the 1984 Los Angeles Games- an early inspiration for Ashley's own path.
Ashley went on to make a difference all four years at the University of North Carolina, where she became a national champion in 2018 and established herself as a leader on and off the field, winning many awards including ACC Female athlete of the Year, The Honda Award, and UNC's prestigious Patterson Medal. After graduating with a B.A in Sociology and minor in Education, her professional hockey career took her across the globe, playing in professional leagues in The Netherlands, India and Argentina.
